Job Description
Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and student-focused Academic Counselor to join our team. The Academic Counselor will be responsible for providing academic guidance and support to students, assisting them in making informed decisions about their educational and career paths. This role is key in helping students navigate their academic journey, offering advice on course selection, academic performance, career exploration, and personal development.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, an understanding of academic policies and procedures, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. The Academic Counselor should be approachable, empathetic, and capable of managing a diverse range of student concerns while maintaining confidentiality and professional integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Academic Guidance & Support
Provide one-on-one academic counseling to students regarding course selection, degree requirements, and career options.
Assist students in developing academic plans, setting short-term and long-term goals, and creating strategies to achieve them.
Monitor students' academic progress and provide guidance to improve academic performance, if needed.
Help students understand academic policies, procedures, and graduation requirements.
2. Career Counseling
Offer career counseling by helping students identify their strengths, interests, and potential career paths.
Provide resources and advice on job market trends, internships, scholarships, and post-graduation opportunities.
Conduct workshops and seminars on career development, resume writing, job search strategies, and interview preparation.
Assist in connecting students with alumni, industry professionals, and job placement programs.
3. Personal Development & Well-Being
Provide personal counseling support to students struggling with stress, time management, and other personal challenges affecting their academic success.
Refer students to appropriate campus resources, such as mental health services, student wellness programs, and other support services when necessary.
Create and promote workshops on life skills, study strategies, and self-motivation techniques to encourage personal growth and development.
4. Retention & Academic Success
Develop retention strategies by identifying at-risk students and implementing support interventions.
Track students' academic performance and work with faculty to address issues such as poor grades, attendance, or lack of engagement.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure students receive the appropriate academic resources and support.
Develop academic workshops on study skills, time management, and exam preparation.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, student progress, and outcomes.
Prepare regular reports on academic counseling activities, student engagement, and retention rates.
Provide feedback and recommendations to the academic team for improving counseling services and student support programs.
6. Special Projects & Initiatives
Assist in the development and implementation of student orientation programs, academic advising systems, and other student success initiatives.
Contribute to developing educational materials, guides, and resources for students on academic policies, procedures, and success strategies.
