Job Description
Job Summary:
The accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of the elderly care facility, including maintaining accurate records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The role involves budgeting, payroll processing, billing, and providing financial insights to support the facility's goals and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management
- Maintain accurate records of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management review.
- Reconcile bank statements and monitor cash flow to ensure smooth financial operations.
2. Billing and Revenue Management
- Oversee the billing process for residents, including preparation of invoices and ensuring timely collection of payments.
- Manage insurance claims, Medicaid/Medicare reimbursements, and liaise with third-party payers to resolve discrepancies.
3. Payroll Administration
- Process payroll accurately and ensure compliance with tax regulations and labour laws.
- Maintain records of employee benefits, deductions, and other payroll-related matters.
4. Compliance and Auditing
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, including tax laws and healthcare finance standards.
- Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits.
- Implement and monitor internal financial controls to safeguard the facility's assets.
6. Communication and Coordination
- Collaborate with department heads to address financial needs and provide budgetary guidance.
- Communicate financial policies and procedures to staff and assist with resolving billing or payroll inquiries.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in healthcare, elderly care, or a related field.
2. Key Skills
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of financial principles, regulations, and healthcare billing practices.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in financial reporting.
3. Personal Attributes
- Integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with residents, families, and staff.
