Job Description

Assist cardiologists during catheterization procedures such as angioplasty, stenting, and pacemaker implantation.
 
Operate and maintain imaging and monitoring equipment in the cath lab.
 
Prepare and position patients for procedures while ensuring safety and comfort.
 
Monitor patient vitals and report any abnormalities to the medical team.
 
Maintain sterility and assist in setting up the procedure room.
 
Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of procedures.
 
Follow infection control and radiation safety protocols.
 
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of cath lab equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Preparation of Equipment and CathLab Setup:

  • Equipment Preparation: Ensure all necessary CathLab equipment and instruments, such as catheters, stents, wires, and imaging machines, are sterile, functional, and ready for use.

  • Sterilization: Ensure all medical instruments and tools are sterilized and ready before each procedure to maintain a sterile environment.

  • Imaging Equipment Setup: Set up and calibrate imaging systems (e.g., fluoroscopy machines) for accurate visualization during procedures.

  • Patient Preparation: Assist with preparing patients for the procedure, including positioning, ensuring they are comfortable, and monitoring vital signs before and during the procedure.

2. Assistance During Procedures:

  • Assisting Cardiologists: Provide technical support to cardiologists and other healthcare professionals during diagnostic and interventional procedures, including angiograms, angioplasties, stent placements, and other catheter-based procedures.

  • Monitoring Patient Vital Signs: Continuously monitor the patient’s vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, and notify the team of any significant changes.

  • Handling Catheters and Medical Devices: Prepare and pass catheters, guidewires, and other necessary medical devices to the cardiologist during procedures, ensuring smooth and safe operations.

  • Recording Data: Accurately record procedure details, including patient information, procedure type, and any complications that may occur.

3. Post-Procedure Care:

  • Post-Procedure Monitoring: Assist in transferring patients to the recovery area and help monitor their recovery by tracking vital signs and observing for any post-procedure complications.

  • Clean-Up and Sterilization: Ensure that the CathLab is properly cleaned, sterilized, and prepared for the next procedure after each use.

4. Maintenance of Equipment:

  • Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance checks on CathLab equipment, such as fluoroscopy machines, defibrillators, and patient monitors, ensuring that they are in proper working condition.

  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve minor technical issues with equipment. Coordinate with the biomedical team for more complex issues or repairs.

  • Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain the inventory of medical supplies, devices, and consumables, ensuring that necessary equipment is always available and stocked.

5. Safety and Compliance:

  • Radiation Safety: Adhere to safety protocols regarding radiation exposure for both patients and team members, including wearing protective gear and ensuring proper shielding.

  • Infection Control: Follow stringent infection control practices to maintain a sterile environment and prevent contamination.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all activities in the CathLab are performed in accordance with health and safety regulations, institutional policies, and best practices.

6. Team Collaboration and Communication:

  • Effective Communication: Communicate clearly and effectively with team members, including cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare providers, ensuring coordinated and smooth operation during procedures.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient procedures, including imaging results, medical device usage, and other relevant data.
