Consultant Urologist - Shahad
Job Description
Diagnose and treat diseases of the urinary tract and male reproductive organs.
Perform surgeries such as prostatectomies, cystectomies, and ureteroscopy.
Conduct diagnostic tests and interpret results (e.g., ultrasound, CT, MRI, urodynamics).
Collaborate with other departments and medical staff for multidisciplinary care.
Ensure proper documentation and compliance with hospital protocols.
Participate in academic and training activities as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Duties
-
Diagnose and treat a wide range of urological conditions, including urinary tract infections, kidney stones, bladder dysfunction, prostate enlargement, incontinence, and urological cancers.

Perform urological procedures and surgeries such as cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate), nephrectomy, vasectomy, and prostatectomy.

Offer expert advice on treatment options and involve patients in shared decision-making.

Manage both acute and chronic cases in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings.

Prescribe medications and other therapeutic interventions in line with clinical guidelines.
2. Surgical and Technical Skills
-
Carry out open, laparoscopic, and minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Utilize diagnostic equipment including ultrasound, CT scans, MRI, and urodynamic studies to support clinical decisions.

Keep up to date with advancements in robotic surgery and other modern techniques in urology.
3. Patient Management
-
Conduct thorough patient consultations, including history taking, physical examinations, and ordering appropriate investigations.

Develop individualized care plans based on patient needs, risks, and preferences.

Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.

Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, ensuring patient safety and recovery.
4. Team Leadership and Supervision
-
Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthetists, oncologists, radiologists, nephrologists, nurses, and physiotherapists.

Supervise and mentor junior doctors, medical students, and nursing staff.

Participate in departmental meetings, case reviews, and clinical governance initiatives.

Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols and guidelines.
5. Teaching and Training
-
Participate in continuing medical education and teaching activities within the department or institution.

Deliver lectures, seminars, and clinical training to students and colleagues.

Support research projects and quality improvement initiatives, encouraging evidence-based practice.
6. Administrative and Managerial Tasks
-
Maintain accurate medical records and documentation using electronic health record systems.

Take part in audit and appraisal activities, ensuring continuous quality improvement.

Manage time effectively to balance clinical, teaching, and administrative duties.
