Desktop Support Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for a skilled and customer-focused Desktop Support Engineer to provide technical support to end-users. The ideal candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting hardware and software issues, installing and configuring systems, and ensuring smooth IT operations in a business environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. End-User Support

Provide first and second-line technical support for desktop systems, laptops, printers, peripherals, and software applications.

Respond to and resolve user inquiries and issues via phone, email, remote tools, or on-site visits in a timely and professional manner.

Assist users with system logins, password resets, account permissions, and general IT-related queries.
2. Hardware Setup & Troubleshooting

Install, configure, and maintain desktop and laptop systems, including operating systems, drivers, and essential applications.

Diagnose and repair hardware issues including faulty RAM, hard drives, motherboards, and other internal components.

Replace or upgrade desktop components as needed and ensure all hardware is functioning optimally.
3. Software Support & Installation

Install, configure, and update business-critical software and security patches.

Troubleshoot application errors and compatibility issues.

Provide user support for common business software such as Microsoft Office Suite, web browsers, and enterprise applications.
4. Network & Connectivity Support
-
Assist users in connecting to LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, and VPN networks.

Troubleshoot internet connectivity issues and resolve network printer or file sharing problems.

Collaborate with the network or systems team to escalate more complex connectivity issues.
5. Asset & Inventory Management
-
Maintain an accurate inventory of IT equipment including desktops, laptops, monitors, accessories, and mobile devices.

Tag and document all IT assets issued to employees and track movement across departments or locations.

Support procurement and asset lifecycle management processes.
6. Security & Compliance
-
Ensure systems comply with company security policies, including antivirus software installation and regular updates.

Enforce data protection measures, such as disk encryption and secure user authentication.

Educate users on security best practices, such as recognizing phishing attempts and safe file sharing.
7. Documentation & Reporting
-
Log all support incidents, requests, and solutions in the IT ticketing system (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Zendesk).

Create and maintain user guides, FAQs, and internal documentation for IT support procedures.

Generate periodic reports on support tickets, common issues, and resolution times for performance monitoring.
8. Onboarding & Offboarding Support

Prepare IT equipment for new employees including system setup, software installation, and user profile configuration.

Reclaim and sanitize hardware from offboarded employees and update asset records accordingly.

Provide orientation to new staff on using IT systems and accessing resources.
