Job Description

Maintain cleanliness in hospital wards, patient rooms, and common areas.
 
Follow infection control and hygiene protocols.
 
Dispose of medical and general waste safely.
 
Assist in sanitizing hospital equipment and surfaces.
 
Ensure availability of cleaning supplies and restocking when necessary.
 
Work collaboratively with hospital staff to maintain a safe environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. General Cleaning:

    • Clean and disinfect hospital rooms, patient care areas, waiting areas, restrooms, and common areas.

    • Clean and sanitize floors, windows, walls, and surfaces using hospital-approved cleaning agents and equipment.

    • Ensure all high-touch surfaces, such as doorknobs, light switches, and handrails, are cleaned and disinfected regularly.

  2. Sanitization:

    • Follow infection control procedures to prevent cross-contamination and spread of infections.

    • Use appropriate disinfectants and cleaning methods for different areas and surfaces, ensuring proper hygiene standards are maintained.

    • Ensure that bed linens, towels, and other textiles are cleaned, sanitized, and replaced regularly.

  3. Waste Management:

    • Properly segregate, handle, and dispose of hospital waste, including medical waste, in compliance with hospital protocols and regulations.

    • Empty trash bins in rooms, hallways, and other areas and ensure proper disposal of waste in designated waste containers.

    • Ensure that hazardous materials (such as used syringes or other medical disposables) are disposed of safely according to hospital guidelines.

  4. Maintain Inventory:

    • Ensure that cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment are stocked and maintained.

    • Notify the supervisor or housekeeping manager when supplies are running low and require restocking.

    • Handle all cleaning tools and chemicals carefully, ensuring they are stored properly to avoid accidents.

  5. Patient Room Preparation:

    • Prepare patient rooms for new admissions, ensuring the room is clean, sanitized, and equipped with necessary supplies such as fresh linens and towels.

    • Follow hospital protocols for preparing rooms in preparation for procedures, surgeries, or patient discharges.

  6. Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper handling of cleaning agents, machinery, and waste materials.

    • Follow established hospital guidelines for cleaning during emergencies, outbreaks, or epidemics (e.g., COVID-19).

    • Maintain awareness of fire safety procedures and use of fire extinguishers, ensuring safe working environments at all times.

  7. Maintain Equipment:

    • Properly maintain and clean housekeeping tools and equipment (e.g., vacuums, mops, cleaning carts).

    • Report any faulty equipment or machinery to the supervisor to ensure quick repairs or replacements.

  8. Communication and Collaboration:

    • Work closely with nursing staff, doctors, and other hospital departments to ensure that cleaning tasks do not interfere with patient care.

    • Report any hazards, safety concerns, or unusual situations to supervisors for further action.

    • Collaborate with other team members to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow throughout the hospital.

  9. Customer Service:

    • Provide courteous and respectful assistance to patients, visitors, and hospital staff, ensuring their comfort and satisfaction.

    • Respond to any cleaning-related requests or concerns from patients or staff in a timely and professional manner.

  10. Specialized Cleaning:

  • Assist with cleaning specialized areas, such as operating rooms, intensive care units (ICU), or isolation rooms, following strict sanitation and infection control protocols.

  • Help in cleaning after medical procedures or surgeries, ensuring all biohazard materials are safely disposed of.
