Department: Technology
Compensation: Competitive fixed + quarterly incentives + ESOPs
Working relationships (internal/external):
The developer will work with both internal and external stakeholders to set up the technology and
features.
Founders – Working with the founding team to develop ideas, concepts and solutions that help meet their vision of the startup.
External developers – Working very closely with a vendor agency or with engineering teams of partner companies to implement the right solution and build APIs.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
Being a part of an early stage start-up, the selected candidate will handle multiple responsibilities to
launch and then grow the product.
Some of the key responsibilities are:
- Gather requirements around functionality and translate those requirements into elegant functional solutions
- Acting as website and Android app developer. Depending on the skills set, the selected candidate can be lead on one platform and play a supporting role across the other
- Deliver across the entire dev life cycle –concept, design, build, deploy, test, release and support
- Working directly with internal or external developers to conceptualise, build, test and realise products
- Build the interface with focus on usability features
- Create compelling device specific user interfaces and experiences
- Standardising the platform and in some cases apps to deliver across multiple brands with minimal duplication of effort
- Optimising performance for the apps
- Keep up to date on the latest industry trends in the mobile technologies
- Explain technologies and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Attend industry events/ conference – both attending and presenting
Person specification:
- Proven commercial software development experience – desktop and mobile with published examples of mobile applications on the App store or the Play store
- Excellent scoping, estimation skills, testing/ QA skills
- The candidate should be comfortable working in a startup environment with a learn fast, fail fast attitude.
Essential skills:
- Strong OO design and programming skills in Java (J2EE/ J2ME)
- Familiar with the Android SDK
- Knowledge of SQLite, MySQL or similar database management system
- Familiar with Eclipse
- Understanding of other compiled languages
- Experience on web service integration (SOAP, REST, JSON, XML)
- Experience of development using web technologies
- Good understanding of OO programming and design patterns
- Good understanding of HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, Ajax and PHP
- Experience building web and native apps
- Experience using social media APIs
- Ads integration using a 3rd party ad server (DART)
- Using version control (e.g. SVN)
- Excellent debugging and optimization skills
