Job Description

Job Title: Junior Furniture Designer

Job Overview: The Junior Furniture Designer works closely with senior designers and project managers to assist in the design, development, and production of innovative and functional furniture pieces. This position requires a blend of design creativity, technical proficiency, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Design Development : Assist in the creation of furniture designs, including sketches, CAD drawings, and prototypes. Support the senior design team with initial concepts and modifications to existing designs.
3D Modeling and CAD : Use 3D modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp) to create detailed product designs and technical drawings for production.

Material Selection: Assist in the selection of materials, finishes, and color schemes based on design concepts, functionality, and sustainability goals.
Prototyping & Mockups : Work with the team to create prototypes or mockups for testing and presentation purposes. Assist in evaluating the usability, comfort, and aesthetics of furniture designs.

Collaboration with Manufacturing: Coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure designs are technically feasible and within production constraints.
Product Testing & Refinement: Assist in testing the functionality and durability of prototypes and make necessary adjustments to the design.
Trend Research & Inspiration: Stay updated on furniture design trends, materials, and techniques to contribute new ideas and innovative solutions.

Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Interior Design, or a related field.

Skills:

Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).

Strong sketching, 3D visualization, and conceptual design abilities.

Knowledge of materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes.

Good understanding of ergonomics, user experience, and furniture functionality.

Ability to work within tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Experience:
Some hands-on experience through internships, freelance projects, or academic design projects is typically required.

Knowledge or experience in furniture manufacturing, materials, and prototyping is an advantage.
