Job Description

A latheman working with graphite powder is responsible for machining graphite into precise shapes and sizes using a lathe machine. The process involves securing the graphite material onto the lathe, where it is rotated at high speeds while a cutting tool is applied to shape it.

The latheman must carefully monitor the cutting parameters, such as speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, to ensure the material is shaped without overheating or causing excessive wear on tools. Since graphite is a brittle and abrasive material, the operator uses specialized tools, often made of carbide, to reduce wear.

The latheman also ensures proper ventilation and dust collection systems are in place, as graphite powder can be hazardous to inhale. Precision and attention to detail are crucial, as the final product may be used in applications like electrical components, molds, or bearings.
