Job Description

Coding: Medical coder assign codes to patient encounters, such as CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and ASA codes. They also ensure that codes are sequenced correctly and in compliance with government and insurance regulations.
Patient records: Medical coder extract relevant information from patient records, maintain up-to-date patient information, and ensure that medical records are filed and processed correctly.
Communication: Medical coder communicate with physicians, nurses, support staff, and insurance companies. They also advise and train physicians and staff on medical coding.
Compliance: Medical coder ensure compliance with medical coding policies and guidelines, as well as payer policies and regulations from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG).
Ethics: Medical coder maintain honesty and ensure that the coding process is unbiased and free from conflicts of interest.
Attention to detail: Medical coder must be able to identify and interpret medical procedures and diagnoses accurately.
Computer literacy: Medical coder need to be computer literate to interact with computers and data.
