Job Description

Provide medical care and treatment to patients in the outpatient department.
Conduct medical examinations and diagnose illnesses.
Prescribe medication and treatment plans.
Monitor and record patient progress.
Refer patients to specialists as needed.
Assist in emergency medical situations.
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
Educate patients and their families about health conditions and preventive care.
Participate in health education and community outreach programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care in OPD:

    • Provide primary care and medical consultations to outpatients in the OPD.

    • Perform thorough patient assessments, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical exams, and diagnosing medical conditions.

    • Prescribe medications, treatments, and lifestyle modifications based on the patient's diagnosis and condition.

    • Monitor and manage ongoing patient treatment, including follow-up appointments.

    • Refer patients to specialists or for further tests if necessary.

  2. Medical Procedures and Services:

    • Perform routine medical procedures such as wound dressing, suturing minor injuries, administering vaccinations, and conducting basic diagnostic tests.

    • Assist in minor procedures and treatment sessions that may be required for outpatient care.

    • Provide health education and advice on preventive care, nutrition, and management of chronic conditions.

  3. Documentation and Record-Keeping:

    • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records for all outpatient consultations.

    • Update patient medical histories, treatment plans, progress notes, and prescriptions in the hospital's electronic medical record (EMR) system.

    • Ensure patient data is accurate and compliant with healthcare regulations and policies.

  4. Coordination and Communication:

    • Communicate effectively with patients, ensuring they understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and follow-up care.

    • Coordinate with other medical professionals, including specialists, nurses, and laboratory technicians, for seamless patient care.

    • Address any patient concerns or questions about their health, treatment, or medical procedures.

  5. Emergency Handling:

    • Identify patients requiring emergency intervention and coordinate their transfer to the emergency department (ED) if necessary.

    • Provide initial care for minor emergencies that may arise in the OPD setting until further medical attention is available.

  6. Health and Wellness Education:

    • Educate patients on maintaining overall health and wellness, including lifestyle modifications for chronic disease management.

    • Provide counseling for smoking cessation, weight management, stress management, and other preventative health measures.

    • Raise awareness about vaccination schedules, health screenings, and routine check-ups.

  7. Follow-Up Care:

    • Ensure timely follow-up care for patients, either by scheduling appointments or ensuring they receive instructions for continued treatment.

    • Monitor patient progress and update treatment protocols accordingly based on follow-up visits or additional information from diagnostic tests.

  8. Collaboration with Healthcare Team:

    • Work closely with the medical and nursing teams to provide integrated patient care.

    • Participate in ward rounds, medical meetings, and interdisciplinary team discussions.

    • Assist in planning and implementing patient management protocols and healthcare initiatives in the OPD.

  9. Administrative Duties:

    • Support administrative tasks related to outpatient care, such as scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and ensuring smooth operational efficiency in the OPD.

    • Assist with billing and coding for outpatient services provided, ensuring that services are accurately recorded.
