Job Description
Job Summary:
An Outreach Worker in an HIV Awareness project plays a vital role in educating, engaging, and supporting vulnerable communities. This is a social work and field-based job in the NGO sector, involving one-on-one interaction with individuals and groups to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, treatment, and stigma reduction.
The Outreach Worker will work closely with local communities, provide accurate information about HIV, motivate people to access healthcare services, and maintain daily data records in diaries and reports. The role requires compassion, patience, communication skills, and a strong desire to serve communities at the grassroots level.
Key Responsibilities:

Community Outreach and Awareness:

Conduct field visits in assigned areas to meet individuals and groups at high risk or vulnerable to HIV.

Educate community members about HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and safe practices.

Distribute educational materials (pamphlets, posters, condoms, etc.) during outreach.

Address myths, stigma, and misconceptions related to HIV/AIDS.

Counseling and Referrals:

Provide basic counseling to individuals and encourage them to get tested or seek treatment.

Refer clients to government hospitals, health centers, or partner NGOs for HIV testing, ART (Antiretroviral Therapy), and other health services.

Follow up with clients to ensure they access the required services.

Community Engagement:

Build trust and rapport with target communities, including key populations such as sexx workers, MSM (men who have sexx with men), drug users, truck drivers, etc.

Identify community leaders and influencers to support awareness activities.

Organize and participate in health camps, awareness rallies, and group sessions.

Data Entry and Documentation:

Maintain daily data records in field diaries and formats as per NGO/project guidelines.

Accurately record number of visits, people contacted, referrals made, and follow-ups done.

Submit weekly/monthly reports to the Project Coordinator or Field Supervisor.

Ensure confidentiality and respect for privacy while handling sensitive information.

Coordination and Training:

Attend regular team meetings, training sessions, and review meetings organized by the NGO.

Coordinate with peer educators, health workers, and local government health authorities.

Stay updated on HIV-related knowledge, national programs, and health schemes.

Additional Responsibilities:

Support in organizing events on World AIDS Day, health awareness weeks, and other campaigns.

Distribute hygiene kits, nutritional support, or other resources (if part of project scope).

Assist in crisis situations such as helping HIV-positive individuals during emergencies or lockdowns.
