Reports to: IT Manager/Director of Technology
Job Type: Full-time,
The System Engineer will design, implement, and maintain IT systems, including hardware, software, and networks. You will work closely with internal teams to ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of infrastructure to meet business requirements. You will also monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and plan for future growth.
Key Responsibilities:System Design and Implementation:
- Design and deploy scalable, highly available infrastructure systems (servers, networks, databases).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to determine system requirements and functionality.
- Evaluate new technologies, software, and hardware, and recommend solutions.
Systems Administration and Maintenance:
- Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure.
- Perform regular system maintenance, updates, and backups.
- Ensure the availability, reliability, and security of IT systems.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network-related issues and provide technical support.
Network and Security Management:
- Maintain and configure networks, firewalls, VPNs, and network monitoring tools.
- Ensure security through access controls, backups, and firewalls.
- Implement and oversee disaster recovery plans and security protocols.
Performance Optimization:
- Monitor system performance and ensure resources are used efficiently.
- Implement performance tuning, load balancing, and failover solutions.
- Conduct root cause analysis of system failures and provide corrective actions.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and legal regulations.
- Manage change control processes for system modifications.
Collaboration and Support:
- Provide support to development teams, ensuring that infrastructure meets application requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on IT projects.
- Train and mentor junior staff and provide user training for system-related tasks.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in system engineering, systems administration, or a similar role.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, CompTIA Network+, or similar are preferred.
- Proficient with Windows/Linux server environments.
- Familiar with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Experience with network configuration and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
- Knowledge of security best practices (firewalls, encryption, data integrity).
- Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with non-technical stakeholders.
