“In its latest effort, the Medical Council of India has directed doctors, hospitals and medical colleges to prescribe generic medicines as far as possible... Last year, in a bid to promote generic medicines, the health ministry ordered states to stop issuing licenses in brand names.” - THE TIMES OF INDIA (27th Jan, 2013)
The recent bill passed by the Medical Council of India (Jan, 2013),which intends to limit the use of branded medicines has left the pharmaceutical companies with no choice but to tread the path of downsizing. It is evident that in the near future, the chances of the pharmaceutical industry in India being doomed with layoffs are high.
In case such a scenario arises, the majority of the pharma field force will be left in deep water. With modern trends and technology changing its face every now and then, it is now more important than ever for the field force to be equipped with varied skill-sets and be adaptive to the ever-changing industry needs.
A small survey conducted by the NHI team in 8 colleges in West Bengal with B.Pharm course saw around 90% of the final year (B.Pharm) students completely unaware of the opportunities in the healthcare sector other than in the pharmaceutical industry.
With over 30 years of experience in the healthcare sector under his belt, our founder director saw a huge gap that has developed over the years between the market needs and the manpower & resource pool available.
He realised that a great percentage of the candidates joining the field force in the healthcare sector are either under-skilled or tend to lose interest in their jobs due to lack of proper grooming.
It came to light that many students were forced into higher studies due to lack of desired jobs. He also found out that almost all the young graduates freshly graduating from college are completely unaware of growing sectors like IT- Healthcare, Telemedicine and Point of Care Diagnostics which are great options for lucrative careers.
Being a part of the different sectors in the Healthcare Industry like Pharmaceuticals, Medical disposables, Medical Instrument, Diagnostics and Pharma-Biotech over the time span of 30 years, and interviewing several thousands of candidates in that time span, our founder felt the need of a third party that would play the role of a connecting link between the two forces; an organisation that would not only train the candidates based on the modern industry requirements but also help them acquire the skill-sets that would help them face any market situation with little or no difficulty.
